Hard to take after the October break

Yesterday was our first game in 5 weeks after having no fixtures during the month of October. This was slightly frustrating for us after the team had gathered some momentum before the break and had won a couple games. Unfortunately we weren't able to keep the momentum going and succumbed to a 6-3 loss despite a spirited performance.

There were a few things that had gone against us in yesterdays game, with players being unavailable, picking up injuries, last minute call offs and a dubious penalty that was awarded to our opponents, that even their players and coaches disagreed with.

However the game actually started well for us with Millie picking the ball up in an advanced position and driving through Curries backline to then slot the ball past the keeper in the 3rd minute of the game.

After this the game levelled out and was a very even game. Currie obviously had been working on corners, and played a few good balls into the box. One of these balls managed to find its way on to the head of a Currie player, who powered a header into the back of the net.

Cramond was holding their own, although making a few mistakes at the back and rushing a few clearances, we were showing some grit and were not backing down to a strong Currie side.

The game continued to go back and forth with both side scoring taking the score to 2-2. Then Currie were awarded a very contentious penalty decision that I felt was the turning point of the game. Currie converted the penalty to take the lead and used that energy to then get another goal a few minutes later to go 4-2 up. Cramond still reeling from the penalty decision, struggled to lift there heads up and get a hold of the game.

Currie still on the front foot grabbed themselves another goal to take a dominant 5-2 lead, but Cramond started to show a little more fight and started taking the game to Currie again. We were defending better and started winning the ball back and driving at our opponents, putting them under pressure. The pressure paid off and we got ourselves another goal to take the score to 5-3.

Cramond had been giving the game everything, but because we only had one substitute, almost all the girls had to play a full game and tiredness started to set in and our performance started to drop off slightly.

This drop off was enough for Currie to push forward and with a very lucky cross, found the ball in the back of the net again for a final score of 6-3 to Currie.

Cramond played well for large parts of the game and we can see the improvement that the girls are making. The girls will certainly not let this loss get to them, instead using it for what it is, something to learn from to help us improve as a team and to become better all round footballers.

Heads up and onwards to the next challenge.
